This maintenance release will update any edition of Monarch 8.00, Standard and Pro, standalone or network versions, with several enhancements and some bug fixes. For the network version, the upgrade needs to be performed on the server only; you do not have to run the upgrade on your workstations. PDF to text conversion functionality requires Monarch V8 Pro. It is important to again note that Monarch V8 Pro cannot open "Image only" PDF files. Any images in your PDF file are ignored by Monarch V8 Pro. The only way to convert an image file to text is by using an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool. You can determine quickly if your PDF file includes text (also known as a "Normal" PDF file) by opening your PDF file in Adobe Acrobat, or Acrobat Reader, and try to highlight the text in your PDF file. To do this, use Adobe's Select Text option: click on the Select Text box and then drag your mouse over the data to see if it will highlight all the information. If none of the data can be highlighted, the PDF file is an image. If you can highlight only part of the data, the non-highlighted portions of your PDF might throw off your alignment of columns when converted to text with Monarch Pro. The Monarch V8.02 maintenance release offers much more precision in defining how much spacing should appear between data, when converting PDF to text. This is defined using the Output Scaling option in Monarch V8 Pro. You can now define Output Scaling in increments of tenths (original Monarch V8.00 Pro did not offer this level of precision). Most PDF conversions, which did not work using Monarch Pro V8.00, will now work with the Monarch V8.01 maintenance update and its superior Output Scaling. Vertical lines alongside your PDF data may present a problem when converting to text with Monarch V8 Pro. The vertical lines may throw off the vertical alignment of data. It would be ideal to simply remove such vertical line formatting from your PDF design, if at all possible. Finally, in some PDF conversions, the original Monarch V8.00 Pro did a better job than the new Monarch V8.01! For this reason, you can choose whether to revert to the old Monarch V8.00 PDF conversion routines instead of Monarch V8.01 using the check boxes.
